We provide these Intern workshops for anyone who wants to work on one of our professional film or television productions. We offer them prior to our shooting schedule. They do not qualify you to work as a professional, but prepare you to assist film & television professionals working in one of the fields listed below. Working on a professional television program or film gives you experience and insight into specific jobs in the industry. They can help you decide if you want to pursue a career in the film or television industry. They can be listed on a portfolio for film school, or when applying for a position with a television or film production. You can also take them to experience the joy of filmmaking firsthand. We plan on offering workshops in the Summer of 2023, after production of the Shattered Lives miniseries has been completed.
Technical Assistant
We provide basic training for technical support for a variety of film professions, including lighting, sound, and key grip (the people who help prepare the set for a shoot). The focus is on the practical needs of a live shoot, and how you can help the professional crew members in charge of lighting ("Gaffer") and sound with whatever they need. This is an excellent position to learn about the technical side of film production. Technical professionals often learn much of what they know about the technical side of their jobs by beginning as a Technical Assistant working on independent film projects.
DIT Assistant
A Digital Imaging Technician plays a dual role in film production. First, they work closely with the Director of Photography (DP) on technical issues regarding image quality, color quality, and the overall look and feel of the images. The second role involves managing the recording material and devices, to ensure the safe transfer of the digital images from the live set to various drives and backup devices, and eventually to the film editor. A DIT professional is expert in digital camera technology, image, digital storage and transfer technology, digital formats, and enhancement processes in post -production. A DIT Assistant helps primarily in the process of managing and transferring digital assets during a film or television project. Being a DIT Assistant is an excellent way of learning the various digital technologies that continue to evolve rapidly in the industry. Many DIT professionals begin their careers by working as an assistant or intern on independent film projects.
Production Assistant
Production assistants help with practical business of organizing the cast and crew, with call schedules, getting people where they need to be, when they need to be there; recording the shot log (necessary to edit the film); and helping with various business support services (like feeding the cast & crew, managing props, equipment rentals, etc.). LIke a Technical Assistant, industry professionals working as producers, or assistant producers, often begin their career as a Production Assistant working on independent film projects.
Second Director Assistant
The Second Director helps organize the cast and crew on the set, while a scene is in production. The position is like a wrangler, managing issues with the cast and the crew, during a scene, that the Director does not have time for. A Second Director Assistant can be asked to do any number of tasks for the Second Director, to help them manage the many issues that come up in real time on a working set. It is essential that the entire team of Second Directors and their Assistants work quickly and efficiently to keep the entire production running smoothly throughout filming. Once again, many industry professionals begin their careers by working as assistants to a Second Director on independent film Projects.
Acting for Film & Television
The first day of this workshop focuses on providing an overview of live film production on the set, the various roles of the professional crew members, and how to work with the Director, especially when they are blocking a scene (working out how the actors move on the set in a scene). The second day of this workshop includes working with an acting coach (all professional actors working in the industry), on scenes from an upcoming film or television project produced by Indie Films Studios. Most professional actors begin their career, building a portfolio of acting projects, by working on independent films. Even after becoming a professional actor, many professional actors continue working with independent film companies, to supplement their income when they are not working with a major television or film company.
